Toronto, Canada — The Nepali flag was raised at Toronto City Hall to mark Nepali New Year 2083 and the beginning of Nepali Heritage Week, observed from April 10 to 17.
Organized by the Nepalese Canadian Community Services (NCCS), the event brought together the Nepali community across the Greater Toronto Area, creating a moment that reflected both cultural pride and a strong sense of belonging.
This year’s celebration carried added significance as the City of Toronto officially recognized Nepali Heritage Week—an important milestone for the growing Nepali diaspora in Canada.
The program featured remarks from Neethan Shan, Kristyn Wong-Tam, and Jagan Sapkota, who spoke about the importance of preserving cultural identity, celebrating heritage, and strengthening community connections.
A key highlight of the event was the formal acknowledgment of Nepali Heritage Week by the City, supported by Councillor Neethan Shan. Community leaders see this as a meaningful step toward greater recognition of Nepali Canadians and their contributions.
Beyond the formal ceremony, the event created space for connection—bringing together community members, leaders, and organizations in a shared celebration of identity and culture.
NCCS expressed appreciation to everyone who contributed to making the event successful and reaffirmed its commitment to promoting Nepali heritage and building a stronger, more connected community in Canada.
